Swindon Town are closing in on their new manager as bookies suspended betting on Paolo Di Canio yesterday.

The former West Ham striker all but confirmed he is to take on a role at a Football League side yesterday when he said a move to England was likely to happen 'in a few days'.

And it appears Di Canio is leading the race to land the Town job, with betting suspended on him being named the new manager last night.

The Italian was commentating for a native broadcaster at last night's Europa League final in Dublin.

Dietmar Hamann, the Leicester City first team coach, was also believed to be in the running but a source close to the player has told the Advertiser that the German international has had no approach from Swindon.

The Foxes chief executive Lee Hoos was unaware of the link, yesterday saying: "I didn't know about that until I read it on Tuesday."
