PAOLO Di Canio will today speak with the Football Association in the hope of getting a decision to suspend Alberto Comazzi for the first game of the season rescinded.

Town received a letter towards the end of last week from the FA saying that Comazzi has a one-game ban to serve after being sent off in an Italian cup competition while playing for La Spezia last August.

The revelation angered Di Canio, who believes the suspension should be served in a similar level cup competition in England.

“It is an incredible situation,” said Di Canio.

“He was sent off in August last year in a tournament equivalent to the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

“For the rest of the season he did not miss a game because they went out of the cup competition and then when he came here they tell me he will miss the first game.

“I will speak with the FA (today) to clarify this situation.

“He was sent off there in Italy and he played all those games in the league, then they tell me he will miss the league here.

“I feel he should miss the equivalent competition here.

“We will see and if they confirm he cannot play the first game then no problem because Aden (Flint) played well against Reading.”
