SWINDON manager Paolo Di Canio is determined not to get carried away after his side were crowned League Two champions on Saturday, and is already focused on repeating the success next season in League One.

Di Canio’s side secured the title in style as a second-half blitz saw them beat Port Vale 5-0 at the County Ground, in a performance the Italian believes showed everyone exactly why he and his players are the best side in the league.

But while the Town manager will let himself and his players enjoy their success until they return to the club on Wednesday following a well deserved break, the former striker is already plotting Swindon’s path to promotion from League One.

“At the moment I can be called a champion with my players, and even if someone is negative with me I can say I am the best manager in the league. It is not my opinion,” he said. “We also finished in the JPT final and went to the fourth round of the FA Cup, all season beating teams above us, and that confirms the players are the best and I am the best manager.

“But it is obvious that in a moment any manager can be called a donkey, so next season we start again, and I am not stupid or arrogant so I know it will be very tough.

“Because in a football career you can see someone like Guardiola now, someone called him stupid and that is crazy.

“For this I am focused for the future because with the victories we reached I have more determination to build or to stay in a place and build a team to win. It is obvious I have a winning mentality and I want to play for the win.

“I am hopeful we will win next year, we know it will not be easy, but we will do our best.”
