SWINDON manager Paolo Di Canio is keen to bring loan players Jay McEveley and Lee Holmes to the club on a permanent basis and wants their futures sorted as soon as possible.

The pair have proved vital additions to the Italian’s squad since arriving on temporary deals from Championship sides Barnsley and Southampton respectively, and are both thought to be interested in making their moves to the County Ground permanent.

Ronan Murray and John Bostock have also impressed during their temporary spells at Swindon, but with McEveley out of contract with the Tykes and Holmes seemingly surplus to requirements at St Mary’s, they are the most likely to join Town on a permanent basis.

“In the next few days we are going to make a decision on the players for sure, but first we must meet with the board and the club to look at and discuss the situation,” Di Canio said.

“They are very good players and I really think positively about them, but I want to know for sure what is going on with the club and the board, because if we were in a club who can keep everybody and sign other players then that would be easier.

“In terms of my opinion on the way they play and the quality they have got, obviously I would like to keep them.”

Di Canio is due to meet with interim chairman Jeremy Wray this week to discuss plans for next season, when he hopes to be able to confirm he has the club’s backing to deliver the long term goals he set at the start of the campaign.

“In the next week we must clarify the situation, and I hope the board can confirm that the plan is the same as when I signed one year ago,” he said.

“If it is we can keep going together because I would be very sad to not stay here for different reasons.

“But I really think positive and I want to keep going with my story here because we are only half way there.

“The plan was three years to the Championship, and now we have two years to go up because we are the champions of this league. If we have the same plan, there is no reason we can not go up straight away.”
