SWINDON manager Paolo Di Canio paid a special tribute to the club’s fans as a glorious season came to an end at Bradford on Saturday.

The game may have finished 0-0, but with the League Two title having been wrapped up a week earlier Di Canio and his players went over to thank the 1,200 travelling fans who all held their scarves aloft in a now iconic tradition.

The players lifted their manager onto their shoulders and threw him high in the air, and the Italian was proud to be able to celebrate with the club’s loyal following at the end of a long hard season.

“Today it was easy to follow the team, but they did it during the winter months when we were not near the top of the table,” he said.

“In November and December we were struggling in an anonymous position, and in the league and cup and JPT games they were nearly sold out and we have to say thanks for them.

“They are champions just like us, and without them we would not have been able to do this.

“The players are the main part but with the fans they made it easier for us to arrive top.”
