FRATELLOS yet again suffered Adver Cup final disappointment as they were sunk by Queensfield for the second season in a row.

Anthony Pascarella’s men were beaten 4-1 in extra time in 2010/11 and were hoping to gain vengeance and add the Adver Cup to their Swindon & District League crown.

But despite dominating the vast majority of the first half, they went into the break 1-0 down courtesy of a measured volley from Roger Munday.

And in the second half they seemed to run out of ideas, with Mikey Jack’s free kick seven minutes from time securing a deserved victory for Queensfield.

However, it was Fratellos that were in control early on, with striker Dave Slattery trying his luck from range and Bradley Clark blasting over following good work by Joe Deyager.

Gio De Sando’s corner gave Steve Davies a free header on 22 minutes and although he connected powerfully, his effort was batted away by goalkeeper Liam Gooch.

At the half hour mark Queensfield had not created a single chance of note, but a slick move gave them an improbable lead.

Adam Jack broke quickly down the left and he floated in a pinpoint cross that Munday directed expertly into the right corner.

The goal clearly knocked Fratellos’ confidence, and after the break when they struggled to make any chances of note until the final 20 minutes, their frustration was increasingly evident.

For Queensfield’s part, they could easily have extended the lead but Adam Jack fired straight at James Whitlock with the goal gaping.

Slattery sent a weak free kick past the left upright before Queensfield put the game beyond their opponents in the 83rd minute.

Danny Hyde was harshly adjudged to have brought down Mikey Jack on the edge of the area, and the latter curled the free kick round the wall and into the far corner.

The result could have been even worse for Fratellos, but Deyager cleared a shot off the line after Whitlock had failed to gather on the edge of the area.

  • QUEENSFIELD manager Pete Smith said Fratellos were lucky not to be on the end of a heavier defeat in the Adver Cup final on Saturday.

Smith’s men triumphed 2-0 at the Webb’s Wood Stadium courtesy of goals from Roger Munday and Mikey Jack, as they saw off Fratellos for the second season in a row.

And boss Smith felt that a strong second-period showing from his side could have yielded an even more emphatic scoreline.

He said: “They had a few chances first half but Liam (Gooch) made a good save and we battled through.

“We had the best chance of the game and scored it.

“They had about four or five, but we held out.

“It was a lot better second half and to be fair we could have won 4-0 in the end as we missed a few chances.”

Smith felt that his tactics and the displays of the individual players were all key in the victory over the Swindon & District League Premier Division champions.

He added: “I think my tactics worked today.

“We packed the midfield and hoped for a bit of pace up front, because they have got a lot of good players.

“Dave Slattery has scored 69 goals this season and we needed to keep him quiet, and he didn’t really have a sniff.

“Our defenders, our goalkeeper, everyone was quality.

“I said Roger Munday was a potential matchwinner and that’s what I said it for, and it was an absolutely cracking free kick (by Mikey Jack) as well.”

Smith added that he was delighted to secure bragging rights over Queensfield’s rivals for another season.

“We’re all still good friends, but there will be banter for another 12 months now,” he joked.

Meanwhile, Fratellos manager Anthony Pascarella took a dim view of his side’s efforts as yet again they fell at the final hurdle.

Pascarella’s side simply could not come up with a quality display and the boss was less than amused afterwards.

He said: “First half I thought we did well and should have scored some goals, but second half it was disgusting. We were shocking and didn’t even compete.

“I was annoyed with the free kick (from which Jack scored) because I didn’t think it was a free kick, but at the end of the day we deserved to lose.”
