SWINDON Town have been interested in signing Eunan O’Kane since January but no formal bid has yet been lodged for the midfielder, the Advertiser understands.

Torquay’s influential 21-year-old, who was nominated in the PFA npower League Two Team of the Year this season, was reported on Sunday to be the subject of an official approach from the Robins.

The Adver has learnt that Town attempted to bring the former Northern Ireland Under 21 international to the County Ground at the turn of the year in a swap deal that would have sent Billy Bodin to Plainmoor.

However, that proposal never got off the ground and O’Kane has gone on to be a key part of a Gulls team that finished fifth in League Two, securing a place in the end-of-season play-offs.

No bid has yet been submitted by Town for O’Kane but the Wiltshire club remains interested in a potential move for the creative midfielder, who has a release clause in his contract which is believed to be lower than the £200,000 figure recently quoted in the national media.

When contacted by the Adver on Monday, O’Kane, who is preparing for the first leg of Torquay’s play-off semi-final with Cheltenham, said he was unable to comment on the reports.
