WHEN Wes Foderingham arrived at Swindon in October, no one would have predicted just how big an impact he would go on to make.

The shut-out at Bradford on the final day of the season was Foderingham’s 24th clean sheet of a remarkable campaign in which he only conceded one goal at home in League Two all season.

The 21-year-old twice equalled long standing club records for clean sheets, and his consistently calm performances inspired whichever four defenders were selected to play in front him.

But despite all his exploits Foderingham started the season struggling to even make the bench at Championship side Crystal Palace, and had no idea his season was going to be so eventful.

“The season has been brilliant for me and a fantastic ride, because it was my first real experience of regular football,” he said.

“I wasn’t really involved at Palace and I was keen to go out and play games, and it could not have gone any better for me.

“People said I looked really comfortable at the beginning when I came here, but I was actually really nervous. Fortunately I did alright in my first game and I gained confidence from then on.

“Since then it has been great and we have achieved so much, and it is a season I will never forget.”

For most of the season the keeper has been a virtual spectator as the near watertight Town defence kept opposition chances to a minimum, but the former Crystal Palace stopper was called into action on a regular basis at Valley Parade and he was pleased with yet another clean sheet.

“For a change I had to do something and I think I earned my money in that game,” he said.

“Luckily the saves I made were not too hard and they were quite routine, so I am happy to take some credit from this one.”

At the end of the game the Town players went over to celebrate with the travelling fans once again, and Foderingham believes they have played a vital role all season.

“We wanted to spend a few minutes with them and show them our support, because our away fans have been amazing so far this season,” he said.

“They have really helped us get through some tough times so far this season, and we wanted to show our appreciation.”
