WILTSHIRE’S junior men’s team were beaten by five shots by Gloucestershire in a tight opening round in the Inter County U25 Double Rinks competition at Westlecot.

The all-Westlecot rink of Gary Jackson, Craig Hatherall, Mike Titcombe and skip Kyle Anderson led 9-3 at 10 ends, but eventually went down 18-17 to Mark Perry’s quartet.

Tom Warner’s rink, including Jordan Moody, Ashley Plumb and David Leighfield, all from Five Rivers, Salisbury, lost 17-13 to Ben Coldrick’s rink.

“The boys just missed out, but they all played well against a tough Gloucestershire team,’’ said team manager Neil Smith.

“Hopefully we can get our own back in the men’s Liberty Trophy match against Glos in three weeks time at North Wilts."

SWINDON players feature prominently in the Wiltshire men’s indoor side selected to represent the county in the national inter-county championship for the Liberty Trophy.

Twelve from Westlecot indoor club and one from Swindon Manor are named in the 24-strong side to face Gloucestershire at North Wilts (Chippenham) in the opening round in the 2015/16 Liberty Trophy on Saturday, November 21 (10am).

Two seasons ago Wiltshire beat Gloucestershire in round one 135-121 at home at North Wilts and will be looking for a repeat this time around.

Last year they went out in round one 111-102 away to Hampshire.
