WESTLECOT begin their bid for glory in the first of the eight ladies, men’s and mixed 2016-17 national indoor team championship and competition events that commence this weekend.
The Old Town club face Oxfordshire rivals Carterton tomorrow (Sunday) at 10am in a preliminary round tie in the Egham Trophy top mixed inter-club championship event, with the overall winner on shots progressing to a first-round tie against Fairford in a fortnight’s time.
Westlecot's side includes several newcomers to the Egham Trophy team, including Shaun Hicks, who plays his outdoor bowls for Highworth and has switched indoor commitments from Swindon Manor.
By coincidence, Westlecot’s second national team championship match of the new season is also against Carterton but in the Denny Cup men’s inter-club championship next Saturday (October 22, 10am).
At the end of the month, on October 29, the Westlecot Under 25 mixed side who lost in the semi-final of the David Cornwell U25 double rinks two years ago to Kent side Swale egin this season’s campaign with a second round tie against Oxford City and County.
