LAWRENCE Bennett is determined to shake off his ‘veteran’ tag.

The 30-year-old is unbeaten in three fights since turning professional back in March and says he will prove the doubters wrong.

“People knock me for my age calling me a veteran,” said Bennett. “Yes, I’m 30 but I am in the shape of my life.

“I’m at the beginning of my career and I know age is not on my side but it is just a number.

“I feel like I have another 10 or 12 years to prove my worth and I will do that.

“People also knock my pedigree because I didn’t fight as an amateur but I’m a quick learner and I’m getting better with every fight.”

Bennett clinched his third pro win in October when he won by means of a disqualification against Junior Millar. But Bennett maintains he would have knocked Millar out had his rival not been kicked out.

“It was a strange fight,” admitted Bennett. I hadn’t seen anything of the guy before the fight and I was surprised how tall he was.

“I am tall but he was taller than me.

“That took me back a bit at the start but then I felt him out and soon realised I had the beating of him.

“I don’t know what he was playing at because he kept throwing me to the ground. I think he just lost his mind a bit.

“Every time I hit him his legs went and I would have knocked him out if the referee hadn’t have stepped in.”

Bennett returns to action at KM Promotions’ next show at the GL1 Leisure Centre in Gloucester on Friday, November 23 and he says he wants a challenging opponent.

“I want another challenge,” said Bennett.

“I want to be challenged so I can prove my doubters wrong and show them that this old man can do something.”

Tickets for the show in Gloucester cost £35 standard and £60 VIP ringside.
