WALCOT boxers Patrick McDonagh and Orges Peroshi compete at the quarter-final stage of the Youth Ambition Championships in South Wales today, writes DAVE VEYSEY.

Both teenagers must overcome the best in their respective divisions if they are to progress through to the semis.

Sixteen-year-old McDonagh faces Jason Sillet from the Splott Adventure ABC in a class A (63kg) contest.

The Walcot southpaw has twice won the national schoolboy title and has boxed for England schoolboys many times.

He said: “I’ve been training very hard in the gym and I’m looking forward to my bout. It won’t be easy but I’m in good shape and it’s a fight I know I can win.”

Peroshi, 15, is much less experienced than McDonagh but is still determined to do well against Levi Griffiths from Afan ABC in his class A (60kg) match.

The Ridgeway pupil said: “I love boxing, I enjoy the training and the contests. When the bell goes I will give it 100 per cent.”

Walcot chief coach Harry Scott added: “Both lads have trained hard and I know they who will give it their all.

“The Welsh are always tough opponents, but to be the best you have to beat the best.”

The action starts at 1pm at the Mount Pleasant Hall, Pontnewydd, Cwmbran.
