SWINDON’S Victory Valley ABC have started their season off well with the club’s Thomas Varey in action.
Varey, one of 12 boxers to move premises from Cirencester ABC to Victory Valley ABC at Chippenham Close Community Centre in Penhill, had his first bout of the season home fighter Ryan Marinos at a show hosted by Highfields ABC in Cardiff .
Marinos, with 48 bouts behind him, had no answer to Varey’s pressure, the Swindon fighter inflicting two standing counts to win on a unanimous decision.
Boxing again at the Barton Hill ABC show in Bristol Varey was up against Anton Haskins, son of former IBF world bantamweight champion Lee Haskins, from Empire ABC.
Varey started well, catching Haskins with the cleaner punches to win on a points decision.
Victory Valley ABC have beginners nights on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-7pm and carded boys from Monday-Thursday 7-9pm and are after seeking donations of boxing gloves and skipping ropes.
