TWO Penhill boxers were in action at Trowbridge at the weekend, fighting in two supporting bouts for the Western Counties versus Home Counties event.

First up was junior Jake Knowles against Joe Edwards from the host club.

Knowles closed down his opponent from the opening bell, throwing good combinations and giving his opponent a bloody nose, but Edwards edged the second round.

In the third Knowles upped his pace and despite throwing every shot in the book, was on the wrong end of a majority decision.

Next up was Curtis Bowers against Brad Parsons from Trowbridge, with both boys having boxed twice previously.

After a cagey first round Bowers totally dominated the fight, holding the centre of the ring and landing almost every punch he threw.

The referee gave Parsons a standing eight count in the third round and Bowers kept the pressure on until the final bell, receiving a well-deserved majority decision.

Assistant coach Micky Gilliver said: “Both boys gave a tremendous account for the Penhill Boxing Club and were both congratulated by the ref and crowd for two cracking bouts.”
