SWINDON’S Noureddine Meddoune needed just over a minute to dispose of Latvian Florians Strupits at the ‘Rumble by the Avon’ event at the Olympiad in Chippenham.

The Moroccan held a three-stone weight advantage and the contest was a mismatch from the off, with heavyweight Meddoune quickly putting the Latvian fighter on his backside in the first few seconds.

Strupits was clearly worried about the Moroccan’s punching power and tried to stay at arm’s length, but when forced into the corners he stood little chance. And the referee stopped the contest at 1:14 as the Swindon fighter recorded a TKO victory.

Meddoune said afterwards: “I am happy, I didn’t expect it to be over so quickly because he has had 21 fights and has experience.”

The night opened with a win for Kingsteignton super-featherweight Jamie Speight, who outpointed Trowbridge’s Dan Carr. Speight was the more aggressive throughout in a bitty contest and deservedly took a 40-37 points victory.

Next up was rangy Bristol brawler Dan Stewart, who took on Bulgarian journeyman Danny Dontchev. The light-welterweight contest sparked to life in an explosive final round, but Stewart impressed the judges more overall as he chalked up a 59-56 triumph.

Elsewhere, Swindon-born Melksham fighter Liam Richards, who has now dropped down to featherweight, won a superbly entertaining contest against Plymouth’s Ben Morrish 58-57.

Trowbridge’s Nick Blackwell warmed up for the first defence of his English middleweight title next month in impressive fashion with a fourth-round stoppage of Latvian Andrejs Loginovs.

The 20-year-old took his pro record to eight wins with a stunning body punch that brought a standing count and eventual stoppage after one minute, 46 seconds of the fourth round.

Finally, Bristol’s former British and Commonwealth champion Lee Haskins, fighting at super-flyweight, stopped Bulgarian Fikret Remziev midway through the fourth round of their six-round contest.
