LECHLADE recovered from a dreadful start to beat Hinton Charterhouse in their West of England Premier League, Wiltshire Division, game at Lechlade.

Put in to bat, the home side lost Roger Pettifer and Chandana Pushpalal both for ducks in the first over. Rizwan Hussan (11) Kieran Gandhi (1) and Gareth Williams (8) also fell to leave Lechlade on 70-5, Andy Vickerstaff picking up all five wickets.

Paul Godding was then joined by Ejaz Khan for the match-winning partnership. After seeing off the openers, they gradually upped the tempo until Godding was stumped for a fine 84 at 219-6. Ejaz (88) followed soon afterwards.

With two rain interruptions in the innings the match was reduced to 41 overs per side, and as Lechlade pushed forward to maximise runs on the board Nick Butler was the main beneficiary for Hinton, picking up 4-30 late on in the innings as Lechlade finished on 236 all out from 40.3 overs.

Lechlade made the perfect start, Newport being bowled by Pushpalal in the first over. A couple of partnerships took the score to 56-3, including the key wicket of Vickerstaff well caught by Anthony Pettifer off Ejaz for 22.

The fourth wicket partnership of James Palmer (33) and Jason Jenkins (30) looked for a while to be the big partnership that Hinton required, but when Godding tempted Palmer with a slower ball for a caught and bowled on 115, the innings lost momentum.

Spinner Anthony Pettifer picked up 3-12 in the middle order to leave Hinton struggling, and they ended on 156-8, leaving Lechlade winners by 80 runs.

Lechlade 2nd eased to a 10-wicket victory at Hinton Charterhouse in the Wiltshire 2nd Division.

Buoyed by their first win of the season last week, Lechlade's bowlers had the home side in all sorts of bother as they struggled to total 101-9, Alan Heath taking 4-16 and Mark Lambert 2-21.

Lechlade openers Henry Whitby (37) and Ashok Gandhi (55) saw the visitors to victory in the 32nd over.
