DARREN Beasant is determined to finish the season on a high when Swindon draw swords with high-flying Biddestone tomorrow.

The County Ground captain is still smarting from last week's shock defeat at the hands of rivals Marlborough and is looking for a positive response from his players.

Swindon can still finish the Glos/Wilts season in third place with a win, while Biddestone need a victory to keep their title hopes alive.

Beasant said: "We don't want to finish the season on the back of three straight defeats because people will look back with a tinge of disappointment.

"Credit to Marlborough last week. They had a lot at stake, they battled hard and their spinners bowled very well on a turning wicket. They fully deserved their win.

"That said, it was a very disappointing loss for us. We were a long way from our best."

He added: "Biddestone have been at the top for most of the season and they will be desperate to win.

"But we've still got third place in our sights. That would be our best finish for a few years so this match really gives both sides something to play for."

John Baden returns from holiday to bolster the batting line-up as paceman Irfan Wazir makes way, Swindon 2nd host Biddestone at the County Ground and will be looking for a big win to overhaul league leaders Chippenham.

The third team have no fixture and will hope that rivals Corsham do not leapfrog them into a promotion spot, while the fourth team conclude their season with a trip to Bath Civil Service 2nd.

n GOATACRE head into their final fixture of the summer knowing victory could spell the end of life in Glos/Wilts for rivals Marlborough.

The Savernake Forest outfit need a win to escape from relegation, and Parish is expecting a tough test.

Marlborough's shock win over Swindon has filled their players with renewed belief and Parish admitted: "This is a massive game for Marlborough and we know they will all be up for it.

"I think that could help us though because it will focus our attention to play in such an important game.

"We don't want to end the season on a low note and we still have a top half place to play for ourselves.

"There were one or two individuals who did not perform against Gloucester last week and they will be looking to put that right."

Parish hopes to name an unchanged side tomorrow, although he has worries over fitness of all-rounder Jif Wilkins and Dan Horton.

n WOOTTON Bassett are planning a triple celebration on Saturday night when the sun sets on another season of cricket in Wiltshire.

Neil Twine's first team have already secured the Wiltshire Division crown, and the second team can wrap up their league title with victory at Hinton Charterhouse tomorrow.

Mike Tyrie's thirds are still in the hunt for promotion to Division Five of the Wiltshire League, which would cap a remarkable season for the senior section at Rylands Way.

"It would be fantastic if all three teams could win promotion in one year," said Twine.

"No doubt we will stay behind on Saturday and have a few drinks together, regardless of the results.

"It will be a nice feeling for my team because for the first time in weeks we won't be playing with any pressure.

"The title is already in the bag and now we can go out there and enjoy ourselves."

Wicketkeeper Luke Bradley-Leach returns for Bassett, while 15-year-old leg spinner Ravi Samant will be handed his first team debut, having played the majority of the season in the seconds.
