WROUGHTON Wranglers secured promotion to Division One of the Wiltshire League after opponents Buscot Park forfeited the final game of the season.

The forfeit handed Wroughton 20 points, which was enough to see them home ahead of rivals Highworth, who lost by six wickets at Heytesbury & Sutton Veny.

As runners-up, Highworth now face a wait to see whether their pitch at the Elms meets the grading requirements to allow promotion to Division One.

Swindon 3rd finished fifth in Division Two.

KC Club secured runners-up spot to Calne in Division One, despite a disappointing two-wicket loss to Spye Park. David Beal (35) and Mark Hulse (30 not out) managed to escape the clutches of some tight bowling as Spye Park reached their target of 142 with three overs and two wickets to spare.

Swindon United Churches capped a good season in Division Three with a final day win over Bathford.

Churches posted 172-9 from 45 overs and Bathford replied with 104 all out.

The win secured third place for Churches.

Blunsdon put up a spirited performance at Bradford Town 2nds before succumbing to a five-wicket defeat. The Swindon outfit had already been relegated however.

In Division Five, Wootton Bassett 3rd missed out on a top two finish despite their 53-run triumph over Goatacre 3rd. Rivals Corsham 4th secured the runners-up spot behind champions Keevil. Swindon 4th were fourth.

Highworth 2nd saw their hopes of promotion from Division Six disappear as they went down by six wickets at home to Calne 2nd.

Promotion and relegation from all divisions will not be confirmed for at least a week however, as the WCCL wait for all other leagues in the regional pyramid to complete their fixtures.

Results secretary Paul Stevens explained: “As always, it is the league at the bottom of the ladder that must wait for everybody else.

“Until we know how many teams are coming into the WCCL, we cannot confirm how many teams will go up and down from each division.

“Usually it would be two up, two down so long as all clubs meet the relevant pitch requirement, except for Division One where just one team goes up.

He added: “We will know more in a couple of weeks, and next season’s fixtures will be ready in October.”
