ENGLAND masters international Kate Jacobs has decided to end her cross country season early, writes KEVIN FAHEY.

Despite making her international bow on the mud in Dublin just two months ago, the Swindon Harrier's new year vow is to focus all her energies on the forthcoming summer track season.

“I have decided that I won’t be racing any more cross country events as I want to concentrate my training on getting ready for the track season,” said Jacobs.

“I seem to perform better on the track and I know from experience that if you put in the right work, then you will get the results.

“So all my training will be geared towards being super ready to race 3000m and 5000m on the track this summer.”

The 38-year-old, from Stratton St Margaret, had a good summer last year, winning the over 35s 5000m title at the British Masters Championships and the Wiltshire County Championships.

She smashed her personal best time over the same distance by clocking in at 17 minutes 11.39 seconds in Cheltenham to go fourth on the UK W35 Rankings.

Jacobs will be looking to defend both her 5000m titles and is also seeking to improve her PBs at 1500m, 3000m and the 5k distance.

“I haven’t raced since making my debut for England at the British & Irish Masters Cross Country Championships in Dublin (on November 14th) and have preferred to concentrate on getting in the miles,” added Jacobs.

“My next event will be the Romsey five-mile road race (on Sunday January 24) and I have also entered the Bath half marathon as I enjoyed the Stroud half last October better than I thought, and it would be good to try and improve my time.”
