SWINDON rider Josh Day and his Crank Racing team will make their Pirelli National Superstock 1000 Championship debut at Brands Hatch this weekend.

The Kent-based squad, headed up by businessman Mark Grimes, have secured a wildcard entry to the premier Superstock 1000 series with their distinctive bright yellow Kawasaki.

Crank Racing is currently contesting the Thundersport GP1 Elite championship, with Day lying in second place in the championship. They will arrive at Brands Hatch riding high after three wins from three at Rockingham last weekend.

Day is no stranger to the BSB paddock, having won the Superstock 600 Championship in 2010 and since then, has dipped in and out, with entries in Superbike, Supersport and Superstock 1000.

This year, he has also made his North West 200 debut, finishing 16th in the Superstock race and finishing 19th in the Supersport race aboard his own Yamaha R6.

Day hopes to carry on his momentum from Rockingham when he lines up with the best Stock 1000 riders in the world on the Kawasaki ZX10-R at Grimes’ local track.

“I’m really looking forward to it. I’ve spent a lot of time in the British Superbike paddock over the years and it’s going to be very interesting returning with the Crank squad,” he said.

“I’ve never felt quite so at home with a team other than my own as I do with Mark and Crank, and I think it’s showing in my riding this year.

“We aren’t going to Brands thinking we’re going to be winning but I think we’re all curious to see how our little team is going to get on. I’m riding the best I have in years right now, and that’s thanks to the job the boys are doing. I’m hoping I can get a nice result to thank everyone for the hard work.”

Swindon youngsters Charlie Nesbitt and Max Cook will also compete in round seven of the HEL Motostar British Championship at Brands Hatch.
