SWINDON’S Max Cook enjoyed another superb weekend as he came away with a double victory and lap-record at Brands Hatch in the latest of the Hel Performance Motostar British Standard class championship.

Practice proved straightforward for the youngster, who recovered from a technical issue during one of three free practice laps, to come top of the pile after clocking a lap of one minutes 37.679 seconds.

However, the rain soon set in when the Isambard School pupil was out to qualify, which forced him to settle for second in his class after recording a lap time of 1:40.789.

During his first race Cook made an excellent start and immediately began to ease away from the rest of the standard class field.

While a battle for the remaining podium positions ensued behind Cook, the 14-year-old focused on his own race and steadily stretched away from his fellow competitors.

He went on to cross the finish line with a gap of more than 17 seconds over the nearest other standard class rider and the process, set a new standard class lap record of 1:35.425.

With one class win under his belt, it was time to turn his attention to the final instalment of the weekend.

Grid positions were based on fastest laps from race one, Cook’s impressive pace meant he lined up eighth for the start of race two.

Rain again threatened to have an impact on proceedings, but the forecast never materialised allowing Cook, who lives in Redhouse, to launch himself from the start grid and quickly opened a gap at the front of the standard class to claim a second victory.
