On the medal front the Wiltshire squad picked up two golds and two silvers, writes KEVIN FAHEY.
Grittleton House student Tom Gibson showed he could handle the pressure of being an outstanding favourite by winning the junior boys' pole vault held in atrocious conditions.
"With the heavy rain it was really hard to grip the pole so I'm pleased to win," said Gibson.
The other gold came from 14-year-old, 6ft 4ins Devizes School sprinter Joe Hutchinson, who powered clear of his rivals to win the junior boys' 200m in a stunning personal best time of 22.64secs, the fastest time run this summer in the country by an under 15 athlete.
"I'm absolutely thrilled with that," said Hutchinson.
Chippenham's British junior international sprinter Elaine O'Neill, a student at Sheldon School, finished runner-up in the senior girls' 200m to add another silver to the one she won in the 100m 12 months ago while there was also a silver medal for St Augustine's (Trowbridge) student Sophie Upton in the inter girls' pole vault.
Upton jumped superbly to equal the championship record of 3.65m but Surrey's Jade Ives went even better to win in a new record of 3.75m.
