A large crowd saw some fine racing at the A Plant LUX Traffic Sportscar Raceday at Castle Combe, writes CHRIS JAMES.

Marlborough's Howard Spooner continued where he left off earlier in the month with a dominant victory from pole position in the 15-lap Castle Combe Special GT Championship race with his Class A Jade Trackstar.

Shane Marshall from Westbury kept his championship hopes alive with second place overall, winning Class B with his Mallick P21 with Kemble's Edward Lovett who is from the family of Dick Lovett motor dealers, fourth, in a Norma 20 GTO 2000.

Due to the number of entries for this race Classes C and D had a separate 15-lap race with victory going to Trowbridge's Mark Funnell with his roadgoing Class C Lotus Exige.

A thrilling 10-lap Melton Concrete Products Castle Combe Formula Ford 1600 Championship race saw Robert Hall take his first victory at the circuit in his Class B Swift SC92, passing the similar car of Steven Jensen on the final lap.

Castle Combe's Andrew Jones was the highest placed Wiltshire finisher with third overall, winning Class A with his Ray GRS 07.

Pole sitter Edward Moore of Bradford on Avon was fourth, Van Diemen RF00, and Trowbridge's Stephen Gibbins eighth in a Van Diemen RF01.

Chippenham's Adam Higgins continued to impress in his first season of single seater racing, winning the Pre-90 Class C with ninth overall with Nettleton's Nick Lay third in Class C, 11th overall.

Other local finishers included 70-year-old Pete Diccox of Chippenham, 24th.

Russell Humphrey, driving a Class A Mitsubishi Evolution, took the honours in the 10-lap National Mobile Windscreens Castle Combe Saloon Car Championship race, with Atworth's Robert Ballard second in Class A ninth overall with his Mitsubishi Evo 7 RS Sprint.

Swindon's John Avery won Class C with the Titcombe Garages-sponsored Honda Integra Type R, with Anne King of Manningford Bruce near Pewsey third in Class C with her MG ZR-190, while reigning champion Tony Hutchings from Heddington near Calne was15th overall with his MG ZR and Calne's Scott Hughes 16th in a Rover 200 Coupe.

The Pirelli Ferrari Formula Classic race was won by Gary Culver in a Ferrari 328 GTB, with Pewsey's Graham Reeder second in his Ferrari 328 GTB, with Malmesbury's Peter Fisk 11th in a Ferrari Mondial QV.

Aston Martins made their annual visit to Combe with Charlie Kemp winning the AMOC Club's Aston Martin Championship race, with Aston Martin specialist John Goldsmith from Tilshead fifth in his DB6.

The AMOC Intermarque Championship race was won by Charlie White in a Ferrari355 Challenge with circuit director Steve Burns from Chippenham, 17th in a Porsche 911-S.
