CHRIS DAGLISH scooped the top prize in the Green Baize Summer Open, writes DAVE EATON.

In the final the former Wiltshire county player, who is now trying his luck on the PDC circuit, beat Devizes' Lee Horsfall 5-4 to take the £500 winner's cheque.

Daglish, who plays out of the New Inn, Stratton, had looked impressive all the way through the tournament beating world top 30 player Dennis Smith 3-0 in the quarter-finals and former CIU champion Johnnie Haines 4-2 in the semi-finals.

The final was a close affair and went right down to the wire with Daglish taking the deciding crucial ninth leg with double four.

Current Wiltshire BDO inter-county championship player Horsfall took the first leg of the final with double top but Daglish hit back to win the next two and lead 2-1. In the second game he hit a maximum 180.

From then on Horsfall was always playing catch-up as Daglish kept nudging one leg ahead to lead 3-2 and 4-3.

A 180 in the eighth leg certainly helped Horsfall's cause and enabled him to level the match 4-4 and set up a last leg decider.

After 12 darts, which included a 140 and a ton, Horsfall was down to 141. Daglish, throwing second but aided by a 140 and 133, only had 86 left.

The tension mounted as nerves crept in but Daglish, after missing with three darts at the double, eventually checked out to win his first-ever Green Baize Summer Open title.

Horsfall had the consolation of still picking up £200 as the runner-up.

In the semi-finals Daglish had beaten fellow local player Haines while Horsfall had beaten Andy Roberts from Telford, Shropshire.

Another former CIU champion Bob Phillips netted the cash for the biggest check-out with 146.

And four ladies shared the prize for going the furthest in the tournament, locals Heather Lane and Joyce Stanton plus Christine Savvery (Chepstow) and Sue Corbett (Bristol). They all exited in the second round.

The next Green Baize darts tournament will be the annual Easter Tournament.
