SWINDON-based HMS Racing will face a fresh challenge next year after confirming a deal with former Ginetta Junior racer Alex Day to contest the brand-new Touring Car Trophy (TCT).

After announcing their withdrawal from the British Touring Car Championship, HMS Racing will now line up in the newly introduced series which has been introduced as a cost-effective route for ambitious teams.

The series will start on the weekend of April 13/14 at Donington Park before a further nine rounds take place throughout the summer, concluding in mid-October at Snetterton in Norfolk.

Teenager Day will contest the series in an Audi A4 having worked closely with British Touring Car Championship star Rob Auston for several years.

HMS Racing team boss Simon Belcher said: “TCT is a great stepping stone to the BTCC, and at a fraction of the cost.

“It’s fantastic to have Alex (Day) onboard and we look forward to working with him.

Driver Day added: “My dream is to one day race in the BTCC.

“So this is a fantastic opportunity to draw on the experience of HMS and learn all I can from Rob (Austin) and the team.”
