Lawn Netball Club - under the banner of Team Triumph - played Surrey-based Purley Netball Club in the Challenge Cup at the weekend.

The cup competition pits netball teams against each other from all over the country and is a good opportunity to judge the standard of netball being played in Swindon.

The game started at a very fast pace with errors being made all over the court and Purley managed to adapt early on and won the first quarter 15-13.

Injured defender Amy Goodwin was the team coach on the day and made some quick changes which helped settle the Wiltshire side in the second quarter and Team Triumph won 12-9 giving them a slight half-time edge.

The Team Triumph side brought on rookie Tanya McMinn which helped strengthen the defence and took the team into a decisive 43-36 lead.

This meant the pressure was off and the Swindon team cruised to a 58 -50 win which takes them into the final stages of the cup with their next game being played on Sunday, April 6.

LAWN will warm-up with a friendly against South African team Randburg on April 5.

The visitors are in this country for some high level games and requested to play Lawn in preparation.

The South Africans are bringing three teams so Lawn's first, second and under 19 teams will be in action at Next Generation from 9am.
