SWINDON Schools went for glory in the High Five Netball County Finals with Grange and Covingham reaching the last four of the competition at Dorcan.

After qualifying from the district finals, 16 primary schools competed in the finale at the Dorcan Netball Dome.

High Five Netball comprises of a mixed squad (girls and boys) of up to nine players.

Only five players are allowed on court at once and they all rotate positions at the beginning of each match as well as at half-time.

This allows players to experience all areas of the court through playing in each position as well as responsibilities such as timekeeping and scoring when they are not on court.

There was some fantastic netball played throughout the day with many players showing great potential.

After two hours of play in the chilling wind, teams and umpires took shelter in the dome to work out the play off positions.

In the end, the top four teams battling out for top positions were Southbroom, All Cannings, Grange and Covingham.

After a convincing win for All Cannings and a close win for Southbroom in the semi-finals, Grange and Covingham were left to fight for third and fourth places.

On the opposite court, All Cannings and Southbroom battled out for top spot.

After some very tense and elated moments All Cannings claimed top spot with victory over Southbroom.

In the battle of the Swindon teams, Grange won to grab third with Covingham in fourth.

Presenting the awards was Team Bath and England netball star Sara Bayman, who also attended a question-and-answer session after the tournament.

Organiser and Wiltshire Netball development co-ordinator, Zaya Morris-Capener, said: "All in all it was a brilliant day and I just want to thank everyone that helped to make it such a success.

"I look forward to seeing the players at many more netballing events in the future.

"A huge thank you to everyone who helped run the day as it would never have run so smoothly with out you.

"The one thing that you couldn't help to notice was the huge smiles that seemed to be everywhere you looked.

"It really was great to see all the teams having so much fun playing netball and watching the players' confidence grow as the day progressed."
