BOWLS

SWINDON Bowls Club completed their special matches to celebrate their centenary with games against the Barbarians Tourist side and a mixed Swindon and District team.

They ran out as victors over the Barbarians on Tuesday but lost by 12 shots to the combined district side a week earlier.

Swindon took the honours on three of the six rinks against the Barbarians.

The rink led by chairman Norman New recorded the biggest win with 17 shots to spare while Les Clifton and Alison White skipped their quartets to ten and seven shot successes respectively.

“It has been a hectic summer but an enjoyable one celebrating our 100 years,” said club secretary Barry Wheeler.

“It has been hard work but would not have been possible without the loyal help of the members.

“It was great to finish the special matches with a win over the Barbarians,” he added.
