WESTLECOT senior men’s brilliant run in the National Over 60s Double Rinks competition came to an end in the quarter-finals.

Their hopes of reaching the last four and final stages later this month at Northampton were sunk in Torbay.

Westlecot were beaten by 11 shots as they went down 36-47 to the Devon side despite just taking the honours in the home leg.

Dave Snell’s home rink won a tight affair 21-20 but the damage was done at Torbay where the away rink skipped by Hedley Bowen had to play second fiddle to an awesome performance by skip Derrick Singleton, who turned numerous heads around.

The scoreline of 15-27 did not do Bowen’s rink justice but on the day they met a skip in Singleton who could do no wrong.

Torbay now progress to the last four at Northampton on February 20 and will be joined by Cambridge Chesterton, Leicester and Preston (Brighton).

RESULTS Home: Bob George, Tony Rivers, David Vowles and Dave Snell beat Duncan Summers 21-20.

Away: Dave Matthews, Jeff Nichols, John Thomas and Hedley Bowen lost to Derrick Singleton 15-27.

Overall score: Westlecot lost to Torbay 36-47.
