SATURDAY'S star-studded meeting at Newbury Racecourse has been abandoned because of the weather.
The card was one of the most eagerly anticipated meetings of the year with the likes of Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Denham in action.
But an inspection was held this morning and the clerk of the course had no choice but to abandone the meeting.
Elsewhere, the whole of the weekend's local sports scene is expected to be affected with a host of non-league football matches already falling foul of the conditions.
Swindon Town's home clash with Southend is currently still on although if weather conditions persist it is expected to be in doubt.
