CHRIS Maxwell was the first Wiltshire runner home in Sunday’s Terminator 11 at Pewsey Vale, coming fifth in a time of 1:25.26.
Nearly 600 competitors finished the demanding multi-terrain event and Chippenham Harrier Maxwell received the Pewsey Cup for his performance.
Winchester & District’s Matthew West, pictured above, was the overall winner in an excellent time of 1:22.02, with the unattached Gavin Pritchard second and Robert Hicks of Town & County Harriers in third.
Swindon Harriers won the men’s team competition due to the impressive performances of their three highest finishers.
Martin Townsend came 14th (1:27:45), Kevin Smith ended 19th (1:29.03) and Michael Tune crossed the line in 21st (1:29.37). Another Harrier, Steve Goulding, was 23rd in 1:30:19.
In the women’s team competition, Swindon Striders came out on top.
Ann Lonie was fourth in 1:48.46 and she was followed by Claire Smith in seventh (1:51.15), while Sarah Wells finished in 2:00.41 to ensure top place for the Striders.
In the Castle Combe Chilly 10k, the best-performing local competitors were Graham Howell and John Lewis.
Chippenham Harrier Howell finished 12th in 39:34.4, while Swindon Harrier Lewis was a place behind in 39:37.3.
The Big Adventure Store Chilly Duathlon was also held at Castle Combe at the weekend.
TBAS competitor Alex Fisher finished in 47:27.1, to end in seventh place overall.
