HOCKEY PREMIER 2: Swindon conceded eight goals in a remarkable second half to crash to one of their heaviest ever defeats, 10-2, at mid-table Whitchurch.
There was no sign of the avalanche to come as the first half ended with the scores at 2-2, with the visitors' goals coming from Rich Bennett and Craig Sage.
The hosts took the lead in the first five minutes, but Bennett netted shortly afterwards.
Whitchurch were gifted their second, and on the stroke of half-time Sage pulled the sides back on level terms.
The second half just saw Whitchurch step up a couple of gears and the Swindon defence lost the concept of defending, conceding three goals in a two-minute period just after the restart.
Things continued to go from bad to worse and goals came from all directions.
Before the game Swindon had the second best defensive record in the league.
But they were helpless as the Welsh side took advantage of Swindon losing possession all over the field.
This weekend Swindon face Bath Bucs A at Greendown and will be hoping to get back to some sort of normality after the defeat.
