MOTOR RACING: Ed Moore from Bradford on Avon won a thrilling 12-lap Melton Concrete Products Castle Combe FF1600 Championship race in his Van Diemen RF99-01 at the Spring Bank Holiday Raceday, crossing the line two tenths of a second ahead of Worcester's Matt Rivett, writes CHRIS JAMES.

This was Moore's 40th FF1600 race win in his 10-year single seater career.

Castle Combe's Andrew Jones came home 11th with his Class B Swift SC92, with the similar car of Ben Norton of Bratton 13th.

The pre-90 Class C event was hard fought, with Andrew Crapnell from Bradford Avon 16th, Castle Combe Racing Club organiser Steve Burns an excellent 17th in his first race at his home track, and 69-year-old Pete Diccox of Chippenham 24th.

Keith Murray once again dominated the 12-lap National Mobile Windscreen Castle Combe Saloon Car Championship race with his four-wheel drive Audi A4 Quattro.

Tony Hutchings, from Heddington near Calne, now leads the overall points standings following a 15th place finish overall and second in Class C with his MG ZR.

Julian Ellison of Seend was 11th with the Swindon Volvo Racing S40 T4, Wootton Bassett's Rick Rowles 23rd in his Honda Civic, and Wayne Osborne of Freshbrook 25th with his Peugeot 205 Gti in only his first season of competition.

In the Castle Combe open saloon trophy race, Osborne finished 23rd, and Rowles 24th after a spin at Camp Corner.
