SWINDON kept their first clean sheet in four seasons as they whitewashed Swansea Bay 4-0 in the Davis Wood Hockey League Premier Division 2.

The hosts received an 8-2 drubbing from the young Welsh side earlier this season but exacted revenge emphatically this time out.

The first goal of the afternoon came when Dave King passed to Chris Hambling on the right, and his inch-perfect pass found Tom Lentschner, who scored at the second attempt.

Swindon quickly made it 2-0 as Andy McGregor beat two players before feeding Mark Young, who made no mistake in front of the open goal.

Mark Preston was ordered off for a petulant body check, but Swansea could not break down resilient goalkeeper Alan Gough, who made several smart saves.

There was time for another before the break as Lentschner provided a pass for Hambling in the D, and he forced the ball home with a reverse stick shot from close range.

After the break Swindon had chance after chance, with John Scrase first screwing wide from the edge of the D, while Jake Biddell also went close.

McGregor fired against the goalkeeper’s pads when it seemed easier to score, and Lentschner fired wide following a fine pass by Scrase.

Even skipper Chris Parsons got in on the attacking act, driving into the D but failing to get his shot away.

It was Young who added a fourth for Swindon as he capitalised on good work from McGregor, but despite further efforts, there were no other goals.

After the game, stopper Gough said: “It is great to finally keep a clean sheet after all these years. It was tough, but I’m really proud of my boys in defence.”

l SWINDON B maintained second place in Wilts & N.E Somerset Division 2 after beating North Wilts A 4-3.

Swindon took an early advantage with Sykes sweeping home, but North Wilts equalised soon after.

Good work down the left from Jeffries resulted in Roblin slipping the ball home at the near post, before visiting captain Smudge levelled the scores.

Newman’s improvisation from Cullen’s ball into the D saw the lead restored and Swindon captain Williams then made it 4-2 with a well-placed reverse sweep.

North Wilts found the net for the third time but were unable to draw level.
