SWINDON Flames Youth lost out 6-2 to Oxford Tornadoes at Farnborough Leisure Centre on Sunday.

Short-benched, Flames fell behind after just 29 seconds, as Josh Hickman fired local rivals Oxford in front.

The inexperienced Swindon side put up a dogged display but went further behind following goals on four and six minutes, with defenders failing to pick up attackers following rebounds.

Will Harding pulled one back for Swindon two minutes into the second half, but another Oxford strike four minutes later maintained the three-goal cushion.

Swindon kept creating chances but found Sabina Lossnitzer in the Oxford goal in inspired form, until Luke Knight netted with just over three minutes of the game left.

However, any vague hopes of a late comeback were dashed as Oxford grabbed two more in the dying moments to consolidate an emphatic win.

The Flames’ junior side fared much better in their weekend encounter, seeing off Ash Avalanche 10-1 with goals from Jack Townsend (6), Oliver Thompson, John Spence and Ryan Couling, as well as an own goal.

Flames went top of the league with the impressive win.

Swindon Flames are always looking for new members, particularly at Pee Wee (under 12) and Youth (under 15) levels, and are seeking to recruit young netminders in these age groups.
