SWINDON driver Richard Voaden made history at the weekend after winning the first round of a brand new racing challenge series at Silverstone.

Voaden won both races at the newly formed Honda V-Tec Series organised by the British Automobile Racing Club (BARC) for cars using the Honda V-Tec engine.

The cars will also run on Yokohama tyres.

Voaden was joined by two other local drivers in Rick Rowles (Swindon) and Dave Roberts (Fairford).

Voaden, pictured in action right, put his can pole position on Saturday with a time of 1:07.054 round the 1.63-mile circuit in an average speed of 87.99mph.

At a sunny Silverstone on the Sunday all three drivers took part in two 15-lap races.

Voaden made history by winning the first race to become the first winner of the new challenge.

He then went out and won race two later in the day.

Rowles finished seventh in race one and eighth in race two.

Roberts finished ninth in both his races, rounding off a pretty successful days racing for the local trio.

The next time the challenge takes place is at Mallory Park in Leicestershire.
