WILTSHIRE Mavericks have triumphed over the likes of Plymouth and Cardiff to win the South West League.

They secured the title by four points from Kernow Truro, and have now qualified for the national championships in May, where they will compete against teams from seven other regions.

The Mavericks team is made up of players from across the county and includes three ex-international players.

Coach Steve Grimes said: “There are some very strong teams in the South West League and our 17-man squad managed to play consistent volleyball.”

Next season the Mavericks will have teams playing in the National League and the South West League.

Wiltshire Volleyball Association president Cliff Ball said: “Volleyball is a growing sport in Wiltshire with many clubs offering volleyball for senior and junior players, with training available for both complete beginners and experienced players.”
