SWINDON players Dennis Smith and Chris Aubrey endured difficult weekends at the fifth and sixth Players Championship events of the season in Crawley.

Both players exited Saturday’s tournament in the first round, with Aubrey losing a tight game 6-4 to Kevin Dowling, while Smith went out 6-1 to Peter Wright.

Aubrey went one better yesterday as he put in a superb display to beat Stefanie Luck 6-0, but was unlucky to bow out in round two after pushing former world number one Colin Lloyd all the way before losing 6-4.

But Smith was left disappointed again as he lost 6-0 to Ian White, who lost in the final the previous day.

St Helens thrower Dave Chisnall put in a superb display to win both tournaments, beating White on day one before getting the better of Justin Pipe yesterday in the second event at the K2 Centre.

Chisnall was proud of his performance, which saw him reinforce his position near the top of the PDC ProTour Order of Merit.

“It's a great achievement and I'm very proud," said Chisnall.

“It feels fantastic and it means a lot to me.

“I've been putting in a lot of practice and that's paying off.

“Justin's a tough player and he played really well in the final, but when he missed a few doubles I knew it was my chance.

“I was never worried, I just knew I had to keep hitting the trebles and I'd get a chance.

“I always knew I could do well in ProTours but this weekend has shown that.

“I'd love to go on and win the UK Open now in Bolton in a couple of weeks.”

Despite hitting finishes of 157 and 110, Chisnall found himself 4-2 down in the final, but the game turned in a key seventh leg, as Pipe missed three darts at double eight to move three legs clear.

Chisnall also had to come from behind in his win over Co Stompe earlier in the day, and defeated Terry Temple, Peter Wright, Kim Huybrechts and Keegan Brown in the event as he took his weekend's prize money to £12,000.

Both White and Pipe picked up £3,000 for their runs to the final, whiched moved Pipe up to number 12 in the world.

The Taunton thrower enjoyed wins over Devon Petersen, Arron Monk, Kevin Painter, Simon Whitlock and Raymond van Barneveld, as he continued his recent good form.
