TEAM Europe won the first ever Tiger Cup played at Broome Manor as they beat Team USA 8-4 to lift the trophy.
The event, played between members at the Swindon club, followed a similar format to the Ryder Cup with morning foursomes followed by afternoon singles.
The European side took a commanding lead into the afternoon session after winning all of the four foursomes, and while the singles were shared equally between the two sides the final score was 8-4.
Broome Manor’s PGA professional Lee Hayward organised and sponsored the event and was impressed with what he saw.
He said: "I was so proud of all the players, they played the game in great team spirit and it was awesome to see the good attitudes and behaviours of the all the young golfers that took part.
“There was some amazing golf played in sometimes tough conditions and Team Europe just came through in the end to win the Tiger Cup. I'm sure Team USA are itching to get the hands on the trophy next year.”
Also part of the club’s junior week was the adult and junior which saw young players team up with older relations to take part in the Tiny Tigers course. The young players hit the shots tee to green with their partner putting.
Lewy Hayward and his grandad Geoff won the seven-and-unders competition ahead of Cillian Roberts and his father Chris. In the eight-and-overs, 10-year-old Ben Wakeley took the honours alongside his dad Darren, with Harry Dearsley, who carded a hole in one at the sixth, second with has grandad Dave Marshall.
"This was another fun event as part of a busy junior week which gave the children and adults chance to get involved which is important to keep a junior section going,” PGA professional Hayward said.
“There are some great scores to top off an exciting and fun packed week and big thanks has to go to all the kids and parents for making it a special one."
