A THIRD successive under-par round was still not enough to haul David Howell into the top 50 at the Italian Open this afternoon.
The Swindon ace shot a two-under 68 at Golf Club Milano to move to seven-under overall but is only in a tie for 51st as the third round draws to a close.
Broome Manor pro Howell got off to a dream start with birdies at the opening two holes, however, a bogey followed at the third and he remained one-under for the day at the turn.
He was then back level for his round after another bogey at 10, but birdies at 11 and 14 got him back into red figures at two under and that is where he stayed over the final four holes.
Sweden’s Mikael Lundberg is the clubhouse leader on 13-under, although he is unlikely to remain there by the close of play as a host of players remain out on the course.
