THE first event in Wiltshire Golf’s Junior Development Tour was played at Cumberwell Park Golf Club at the end of May.

The event was well attended, with more than 20 players contesting a nine-hole competition on the par-three course.

Some excellent scores were produced, with the joint gross leaders posting 35 – just eight-over par.

A nearest-the-pin competition was also contested on the eighth hole, played across water to an island green, and the day was finished off with a putting competition.

Harry Batten (North Wilts) was triumphant in the U12 boys category with nett 19, beating Ernie Finn (Kingsdown) on countback.

Thomas Melluish (Bassett Downs) won the U10 boys class with nett 22 – the same score recorded by Zachary Dore (Cumberwell Park) and Toby Morris (West Wilts).

Daisy Perrett (North Wilts) posted nett 17 to win the girls’ category.

Toby Morris also won the boys’ nearest-the-pin and putting competitions. Angel Wilson was nearest the pin amongst the girls, while Lauren Pocock won the putting prize.

A Wiltshire Golf spokesperson said: “It was a pleasure to watch the players enjoy their golf. We saw some great scores throughout the day, and certainly some true golfing potential was shown on the course.

“Thanks goes to Ian Welding, who was there from 8.30am setting up the course. Plus, a big thank-you to all the volunteers who helped make the day so special. As always a huge thank you to Cumberwell for hosting this event for us.

“The Wiltshire County Junior Development Tour 2019 is Supported by Manor House Golf Club and all its members. Thank you to Andrew Ryan and the team at Manor House for making this possible.”
