DAVID Howell was this morning due to tee off at one of the younger tournaments in world golf.

The Broome Manor pro was set to take on the DLF Golf and Country Club course in New Delhi, which is hosting the Avantha Masters.

The tournament only began last year and Andrew Dodt triumphed as he finished on 14-under-par.

Despite failing to make the cut at the Dubai Desert Classic last week, Howell has generally been in decent form and currently sits 22nd in the Race to Dubai.

He said: “I feel that I have really turned a corner recently in terms of the confidence I have in my own game, so I am coming in with a fair bit of optimism.

“I was disappointed to miss the cut last week because the confidence is returning, especially after the top 10 in Qatar.

“I have had a couple of top tens in the last five months which isn’t an amazing return but I have lots of optimism and reasons to feel that I should be a bit more confident.”

Howell was due to tee off at 2.45am GMT this morning (8.15am local time), with playing partners Rikard Karlberg and Jyoti Randhawa.
