SWINDON'S David Howell is in contention to win his first European Tour event in five years, following a blistering third round at the Irish Open today.
The Broome Manor pro is locked in a three-way tie for the lead after shooting a third-round 64 at Killarney Golf & Fishing Club, eight shots better than playing partner and US Open champion Rory McIlroy.
Howell carded the flawless seven-under-par effort in wet and windy conditions and is currently on 11-under overall alongside fellow countryman Simon Dyson and Aussie Richard Green, heading into tomorrow's decisive 18 holes.
