SWINDON Panthers can be happy with some good performances in this year’s Summer Cup after winning two of their three games.

Despite falling behind early on in the first game, Swindon were able to win 7-5 against the Chelmsford Nighthawks.

Swindon found themselves behind within the first five minutes but goals from Wayne Fiddes and co meant they finished the first period in the lead.

Both sides suffered a goal-shy second period, both teams were creating chances but neither were able to tuck them away.

The Nighthawks couldn’t get back into the game despite their best efforts, falling to an 7-5 defeat.

Game two was a stern test away at Streatham who have been the team to beat in recent years.

The first period ended goalless as both keepers stood firm. The deadlock was finally broken in the second period when Fiddes found Scott Gough who applied the finish.

Streatham drew level when Russian import Markov got himself on the score sheet. The final period would be close, Panthers to contain the Chiefs but their efforts would be in vain as Streatham scored twice to end the game 3-1.

The next day they then played their final game at home to the Solent Scorpians.

The first goal of the game came after 10 minutes when Gough found the net, it would then only take 90 seconds for the Panthers to double their advantage when James Burnett got a brace. A strong opening period would see the home side take an impressive four goal lead into the second period.

Complacency set in for the Panthers, Solent import Chernko doubled up within three minutes bring the game to 4-2.

The Swindon side put daylight between them and the opposition, Fiddes and two from Gough securing their triumph.

The Scorpians were unable to get back into it and two goals from Gary Loveday ensured the Panthers saw out an 8-5 victory.
