After a short stay with us at the Wildcats, Ben Davies had a successful trial with the Norfolk Admirals and we all want him to do well.

It’s a professional environment in the Eastern Conference Hockey League but the flavour of hockey is very similar to the UK and mainland Europe.

It’s very fast paced and the rinks are a bit smaller which means the hockey can be quite physical but Ben has gone out there to experience a different aspect of hockey which can only build your résumé as a player.

It’s very demanding so he’ll have to stand up for himself and you don’t know what you’re going to get, some players respond really well and for some players it doesn’t suit them at all.

I first met Ben when he was 16 at the Cardiff Devils where we played together for a couple of years, he’s a very tenacious kid.

He knows where he is heading, of course it will be a little bit physical but I don’t think he’ll shy away from that.

Experience can only help you. The more tools of the trade you pick up as a professional can only be a good thing.

I think it’s why he went over there so he can pick up another game that he didn’t already have which he can add to his toolbox.

Whether he sticks there or comes back, it’s a win-win situation for him because he is going to gain experience.

As a young player, I think he needs to get those different experiences under his belt and it will only benefit him.

Having played all over, I know experience is an important thing to get but you can’t buy it so it’ll only make him a better hockey player.

At this point in my career I want to stay put, I’ve played everywhere in the world and I’ve gained all the experience.

Now we have a tough weekend ahead with Basingstoke Bison on Saturday and the Sheffield Steeldogs on Sunday.

Before Wednesday’s 2-1 defeat to MK Lightening, we said in the changing room that we need to win two out of the three games this week if we are to have any chance of advancing.

We just need to replicate the effort we put in on Wednesday and there is nothing more we can do.
