THE Swindon Wildcats turned on the style in front of a bumper crowd yesterday to round off a perfect weekend.

The best part of 2,000 fans crammed into the Link Centre, making the most of the Kids Go Free offer, and they saw Cats put on an exhibition to demolish lowly Wightlink and their host of former Swindon stars, 6-0.

It followed a far stiffer test 24 hours earlier, but one the Cats also passed with a thrilling 3-2 win at high-flying Slough Jets.

Recent signing Jozef Kohut continued to endear himself to the travelling fans on Saturday night.

He opened the scoring in the first period, and after Slough had reversed the score to 2-1 in the second, Kohut scored with possibly the hardest-hit shot in the EPL this season to level.

Player-coach Ryan Aldridge then took centre stage to score the winner after 49 minutes, rounding off a polished move to seal victory.

It was a huge confidence boost going into last night’s less daunting home tussle and the Cats quickly picked up where they had left off.

Matty Davies started the rout in the opening exchanges, finishing off a tic-tac-toe move involving Aldridge and Jon Sitko.

Former Swindon netminder Mike Brabon was beaten again on 5.17, when Kohut left him grasping at clean air.

Two became three before nine minutes were on the clock as Aldridge and Aaron Nell combined before Davies thundered home his second of the evening.

Wightlink tightened up in defence moving into the second frame, but the floodgates opened again just shy of the half-hour mark when netminder Ladislav Kudrna - man of the match with a perfect 22 saves - made a coast-to-coast clearance that eventually fell to Nell who tucked in goal number four.

Within two minutes John Wheaton powered in the fifth and the flapping Brabon was duly pulled.

His replacement Toby Cooley proved a tougher nut to crack, making several fine saves, in particular a succession of stops during a five-on-three powerplay.

With the outcome long since determined, the game turned into an exhibition match in the final period.

But there was still time for a final flourish as Jamie Hayes was sent clear by Ciaran Long to finally beat Cooley.
