MATTY Davies has already mixed it with the big boys this month - and has warned the English Premier League that Swindon Wildcats are ready to do the same come play-off time.

The forward, 19 next week, rounded off an eventful week last Sunday by firing two goals in Cats’ 6-0 Link Centre demolition of the Wightlink.

It was a satisfying conclusion to a whirlwind 72 hours for the Great Britain Under 20 international, who answered an SOS from short-handed hometown Elite League team Hull Stingrays to play in a cup clash against Manchester Phoenix, before returning to Swindon colours for victories over Slough and the Raiders at the weekend.

The double was Swindon’s first since the start of December and emphatically ended a disappointing run of just two wins in eight games since the turn of the year and Davies reckons his side have laid down a marker for what is possible come the post-season matches.

“Whoever gets to the play-offs will have a good chance at winning them,’’ he told the Swindon Advertiser. “We’ve beaten Guildford and now Slough so we’ve shown what we can do and we have got a lot of faith in ourselves.

“We have got as big a chance as anybody in the play-offs.’’ First up comes the job of cementing their place though and Swindon can take another giant stride with back-to-back success at second-placed Milton Keynes Lightning tomorrow and at home to strugglers Telford on Sunday (6pm).

Davies added: “Saturday is going to be hard because it always is going to Milton Keynes and Sunday is a huge match because Telford are one of those teams around us.

“But we had a good weekend last week and we took our chances. Around Christmas was a tough period for us with a lot of changes but we’re settling down and Jo (import Jozef Kohut) has come in and is awesome.’’ As for his own ambitions, Davies admits his Stingrays outing gave a glimpse of the future he is playing for.

He added: “I got the call because they were short and it was a good experience because I’d never played in the Elite League.

“It was good for me to see what the play was like in the league and I know that one day I want to play at that level.’’
