THE perfectionist in Ryan Aldridge could not resist ruing the two third-period goals his team conceded in their 10-4 win over Telford at the Link Centre last night.

Wildcats broke their four-match losing streak with a commanding victory over the English Premier League strugglers, but player-coach Aldridge admitted that letting in twice in the final 20 minutes had left him slightly disappointed.

“It's a win and we needed a win, but getting out-shot in the third period wasn't good enough,” he said.

“They scored two easy goals in the third period and we have to be better in the defensive zone.

“It left a bitter taste in my mouth to be honest, but we have to move on as a team now.”

James Knight, back in the Wildcats side following a virus, got the home side off to a flyer inside the first minute, with Jonas Hoog and Aldridge providing the assists.

Telford equalised on the two-minute mark and that was how it stayed until the end of the first period, before the visitors led for the first time after the resumption.

Jamie Hayes pulled Swindon back on terms and then Jozef Liska struck to put the home outfit back in front.

Hayes grabbed his second at 29.43 and it quickly became 5-2 as Knight provided the pass from which Egidijus Bauba converted.

With the end of the second period looming, Liska and Hoog took the lead out to a commanding 7-2 and the two points were all-but in the bag.

Knight set up Hoog for number eight in the final period before Joe Henry hit back at 46.53 and Nathan Salem reduced the arrears to 8-4.

But Aldridge got on the scoresheet at the other end with Jan Melichar laying on the assist, and the scoring was completed by Bauba, assisted by Jamie Hayes..

Swindon face Bracknell tomorrow night and Sheffield on Sunday as they look to cement a place in the EPL play-offs.

And Aldridge added: “Saturday's going to be a real tough one. We've got to shut those top two guys down and we've got to play the way we can.

“If we play the way we can we're a great hockey team, but if we don't come out firing we're an average hockey team.”
