SUPERMARINE’S trip to Pewsey Vale didn’t get off to the best of starts but they sound found their groove to beat Dorset & Wilts 1 North’s bottom side 46-11.

The Swindon side arrived at the Angela Yeates Memorial Ground later than planned and were forced to rush their warm-up, but despite their initial problems they quickly found their groove once the first whistle sounded as Killian Spain gave them the lead after only three minutes.

Coach Sean Millwaters missed the conversion but that didn’t stop Marine as they charged to a 29-11 lead at the break thanks to Spain’s second and scores from George Cowley and Matty Dickens.

The visitors’ dominance continued after the break as Spain completed his treble and Dan Taylor added two, including one classic forwards effort, with Millwaters’ boot adding the rest of the points to complete the scoring.

The win keeps Marine amongst the three teams breaking away at the top of the table, much to the delight of Millwaters.

“We rocked up a bit late and were a bit disjointed, and we didn’t have a great warm-up either, but we scored in the first three minutes which was a really good start considering everything,” he said.

“We managed to put together some really nice phases of play which was good, although some silly mistakes saw us concede some soft penalties, but three tries before half-time put us in a strong position.

“All in all we moved the ball well and used the space, and we have to be pleased with what we did.

“We scored three more tries in the second-half which was good because there was a good platform set by the forwards who played really well for us.”

Supermarine 2nds were not able to replicate the good performance of their first team as they went down 17-12 at home to Swindon College Old Boys 2nds.
