SUPERMARINE Ladies delivered ‘the boom’ as they booked their place in their first ever cup final with a 22-0 win over Darlington Ladies.

A brace from Nat Williams in the Women’s Intermediate Plate semi-final earned the ladies a trip to Twickenham Stoop for their first cup final in their 30 year history.

In front of 250 fans, the ladies were given the perfect welcome as they entered the pitch through a guard of honour provided by the minis section of the club.

It was always going to be a tough ask for the visitors, who had to travel six hours for the match, and Supermarine made it an uphill battle from the off when Theresa Bickell crossed the whitewash for the for the first try of the afternoon.

After the restart and with the ball back in hand, another pick and go drew in the Darlington defence and Supermarine took advantage by shipping the ball out to the wing for Williams to score the second try of the game.

With eight minutes to go until the break, strong forward play sucked the defence in and once again, Marine were able to ship the ball wide for Williams to score her second try.

A strong defensive display in the second half from Supermarine managed to keep Darlington off the score-sheet before a stolen lineout gave the hosts the ball close to the try line.

And they managed to put another five points on the board thanks to outside centre Harriet Marshall, with Williams kicking the conversion.

“Everyone is still smiling quite a lot,” said Supermarine backs coach Gareth Hollis “It has always been our girls saying that they are going to bring the boom and they delivered that.

“That was probably our best performance of the season and it is still a bit surreal.

“We couldn’t have asked any more from our girls. They had control of the game for 80 minutes and were consistently on the front foot.

“There were over 250 people there on Sunday, which is our biggest turn-out of the season, and that shows how much it meant.

“We have won leagues but now the girls get the chance to say that they are the first ones to go to the cup final, and that is a proud moment for them.

“One thing we will look forward to now is the final.”

Supermarine now face Moseley ladies at the Stoop, on a date which is to be confirmed.
